About

Nigel Monckton is a part-time photographer who focusses on using his camera to understand the world around him and his relationship to it.

Perpetually inquisitive, Nigel is studying photography to degree level. Since starting his degree he has continued to sell stock imagery and was also a finalist in the 2011 Wanderlust Travel Photographer of the Year competition.

Nigel was born and raised in rural Somerset and has a lasting memory of watching the removal of the local railway line (the Somerset and Dorset) after Beeching’s axe fell. Although he moved away from his home village at the age of 21 to follow a full-time career first in science, and subsequently in science communications, this event left a lasting impression – which has re-surfaced as in interest in absence, and the ability of objects to evoke a connection to what has gone before.
